Saint-Gobain PAM UK sponsor the Institute of Water Drilling and Tapping competition for the 22nd consecutive year.
Saint-Gobain PAM UK is proud to have sponsored the Institute of Water Drilling and Tapping competition for the 22nd consecutive year. The competition was held as part of Utility Week Live 2016, which took place at the NEC in Birmingham earlier in May.
The event is a team time trial, and each team has two contestants, one of whom must be connected to the water industry by being employed either by a water company or contract partner.
Their aim is to drill and tap a Natural 150mm-diameter ductile iron main under pressure, and install a simulated service connection. Skill, dexterity and speed are a prime requirement, but quality of work is paramount, and time penalty points are added if there are any leaks or infringements of the rules and regulations governing the championships.
The Anglian Water team, which consisted of Jason Barrett as the driller and Lee Maddock as the fitter, were crowned winners this year, with an impressive time of 2 minutes 14 seconds. The same Anglian Water team also won the title last year.
